Situated in a beautiful valley of the Apatani plateau, Ziro is home to
the Apatani tribes. These tribes are themselves Ziros greatest
attraction. They speak not less than 60 dialects, all told. Though a
tribal people, they are well acquainted with modern systems of
cultivation.
¤ Wild Life Attraction
Wildlife in Arunachal Pradesh is both rich and colourful. Situated at
an altitude of 4500m, the Namdapha National Parkhas a wide variety of
animals and birds.
Some of the more important animals are the gibbon, tiger, leopard and
the snow leopard.
The rain forest areas of Arunachal Pradesh are the natural habitat of
the Hoolock gibbon (Hylobates hoolock), the only species of ape found
in India. Namdapha National Park is one of the few places in the
country noted for its concentration of gibbons. Unfortunately, the
demand for land and timber is threatening the existence of the
species.
¤ Tipi Orchid Research Centre
Situated on the way to Bomdila, the Tipi Orchid Research Centreis a
treasure trove of a wide variety of orchids that grow abundantly in
the state.
¤ Community of Aborigines
There are some places in Arunachal Pradesh that are cut off from the
rest of the country. Recently the Indian army found a community of
aborigines still living like primitive men in the Chetak Pass. They
are still unfamiliar with the use of fire. |
