¤ Most Planned City of India
 Situated
on the foothills of the Shivalik Hills, Chandigarh is regarded as the
best planned city of Asia. The city is the capital of both Punjab and
Haryana. Designed by the French architect Charles Edouard Jeanneret,
better known by his sobriquet, Le Corbusier , this modern city is a
tourist's delight. Its architectural wonders are worth visiting, and
incredibly for an Indian city, it is completely devoid of slums.
¤ Main Attraction of the City
Sukhana Lake
This man-made lake has been created by damming Sukhana Choe. A
recreational spot, the lake provides facilities for boating and water
skiing. Surrounded by lush green vegetation, the picturesque beauty of
Sukhana can best be witnessed either at sunrise or sunset.
Rock Garden
This unique rock garden was thrown open to the public in 1976. Made
out of waste materials like fused bulbs, broken plates and tiles, this
fantasy garden was fashioned by Nek Chand.
Punjab University
The basic layout of the Punjab University has been designed by
Pierre Jeanneret and it offers courses in Arts, Commerce, Music,
Theatre. The facilities are of international standard and the
University Campus with its lush green lawns, towering buildings and
rich botanical gardens, is a tourist attraction as well.
¤ Shopping & Bazaars
Situated in the heart of the city, Sector 17 is appropriately termed
as 'Pedestrians' Paradise' as it allows no vehicular traffic. It is
also a place where visitors can shop to their heart's content.
