Delhi - Sikander Lodi
Sikander Lodi
Bahlol
Lodi was succeeded by his son Sikander Lodi. Sikander had a tough time
dealing with revolts from his own house when he came to throne. First
he had to chase and defeat his uncle who tried to declare
independence. The next rebel was his own brother Barbak Shah who ruled
Jaunpur. However blood being thicker than water, Sikander treated
Barbak with surprising leniency. After having defeated him, he placed
Barbak back on the throne. He did however take the precaution of
giving all the fiefs in Jaunpur to his own people and placing spies
around his brother. Jaunpur came into the limelight again when there a
serious Hindu rebellion broke out against Barbak who was a bigoted
Muslim. Unable to deal with the situation Barbak turned to big brother
for help. Sikander Lodi helped quell the rising and then reinstated
Barbak to the throne.
It was around this time that Sikander decided to move to a place
which made watching over the areas of
Rajasthan, Doab,
Gwalior and Bihar
more easy. In 1504A.D., he started building Agra and shifted there
soon after.
