Kalka Tour
Distance : 16km from Chandigarh, 93km from Shimla
This is the terminus for the narrow gauge railway from/to Shimla
and is just over the border into the state of Haryana. On your shimla
India tour take a halt at Kalka.There’s nothing to see in Kalka,
so don’t bother spending time here unless you really want to
stretch your legs a bit.
¤ Main Attractioins
About 5km southwest on the Chandigarh road are the beautiful Mughal
gardens at Pinjore.
The gardens were laid out by Aurangzeb’s foster brother Fidai
Khan, who was also the architect of the Badshahi Mosque at Lahore.
Within the char bagh (complex of four gardens, typical of Mughal
style) are a number of palaces in Mughal-Rajput style.
The Sheesh Mahal has a beautiful mirror-studded ceiling and is cooled
by water flowing underneath. The Rang Mahal, an arched pavilion, is
decorated with traditional guldasta (bouquet) motifs while the Jal
Mahal is set among cool fountains. The garden makes a popular picnic
spot with a mini zoo thrown in for good measure too. Don’t miss
