Kufri adventure in Shimla is a paradise for adventure enthusiasts. This is
solely because of its sheer geographical position. There are very few places in
the world that as are enriched with natural beauty as the Himachal Pradesh
Nature is at work in this region with Rivers gurgling through deep stony gorges,
low rolling hills, peaks that are several thousand feet high, green alpine
meadows, placid lakes, so on and so forth. At the little village of Kufri, there
are lengths of mountainsides draped with pure white snow.
Winter Sports in Kufri-

Skiing- Kufri’s a great place for skiing and other most loved winter sports. In
fact, Kufri boasts of the oldest ski slopes in the whole of country. The sport
was popularized about mid 80's by some local youngsters. Thanks to their
efforts, the slopes at Kufri remain dotted with skiers in the winter months.
This preference has continually remained despite the fact that there has been no
reports of non support from the government authorities and various related
bodies. The ski slopes continue to enthrall skiers and winter sports enthusiast
as well.

Other Winter Sports-The region is also known for other winter sports that
include tobogganing, hiking and horse riding here. To bagging is relatively new
sport as far as India is concerned. The sport involves a simple sledge that is
used to move upward and downward through the snow. This is a preferred
especially by kids and longer Tobbangs can accommodate upto three to four kids
at a time. But do not expect European or American resort slopes or facilities
which are a shortcoming of the region. Kufri also has heli-skiing facilities.
Kufri holds the National Snow Statue Competition sometime in January.

Hiking and Skiing in Mahasu peak - There are also hiking trails through the
Mahasu peak which is also an added feature of adventure sports in the region.
The trails of Mahasu are sinuous for spruce and deodar plantations which are
both beauty of nature s and also best suited for hiking. The Mahasu ridge is
also a preferred a destination for skiing.

Horse riding- There are also facilities for horse riding around the hills and
valleys.
Transport- Kufri is a regular stop for buses that travel between Shimla and
Narkanda or up to Rampur (via Fagu). Taxis are also available.
