Transport Centre of Eastern Himachal
Distance : 58 km from Losar
Kaza is the major transport centre of
eastern Himachal. It is also the administrative centre of the subdistrict
of Spiti. Kaza can be divided into two parts.
The old town is a maze of little shops, hotels and houses. The new
town is a collection of government buildings, including the DMs
office.
There is an attractive oneday circular trek from here to Hikim
and Comicvillages. Hikim gompa (early 14th century) modelled on a
Chinese castle was built under Mongol patronage. Deeper along the
valley, Kaza is noted for its picturesque Kye monastery.

Sakyas Abode
It is in the new town. It serves delicious Spitian food.
Lyul Café and Flax in the old town are famous for their momos
and thukpas.
Milarepas Guest House
Zambala Hotel & Restaurant is an upmarket type just next to the
State Bank.
Whispering Willows is a small rocky camping site in the old town with
a restaurant. PWD and Electricity Board Rest Houses.
Tourist Lodge run by Himachal Tourism.

Transport
Connected by bus services to Manali, Shimla, Kullu, Chandigarh,
Chango, Losar, Kibber and Mikkim in the Pin Valley.

Kibber
11 km from Kye village
Altitude
4,205m, The pretty village of Kibber is also known as Khyipur. Kibber
has a population of over 400 and was the highest permanently inhabited
village connected by a motorable road till the road was extended to
Tashigang.

Kibber has three small guesthouses: the Sargaung Guest House, Sargong
Hotel and the Parang La Guest House.
Transport
summer, a bus leaves daily at 0800 hrs to Kye and Kibber from Kaza.
Return taxis can also be hired from here.
Festivals
Each July the Ladarch Festival in Kibber attracts Buddhists from all
over the region.
¤ Thang Yud Gompa
13 km north of Kaza
Thang Yud Gompa, also known as Hikim, was built in the 14th century.
The gompa belongs to the rare Sakyapa order. The Sakyaschool or the
Sakyapa sect received its name from the colour of the soil at the site
of its first monastery. In Tibetan sa is earth kya is white.

Transport
There are no roads or public transport to the gompa; getting there
involves a steep trek.
Attergu
22 km from Kaza,The village of Attergu lies along the National
Highway (NH) 22. It is the point of access to the Pin Valley. From
Attergu, you can visit any of the famous gompas in and around the
area.
