Facilities Available At Orchha
¤ Tourist Information offices
Orchha itself has no tourist information office, the nearest is the
Madhya Pradesh Tourism Counter .
Jhansi Railway Station.
¤ Banks & Money Exchange
Change your currency and encash your travellers’ cheques before
you set off for Orchha. There are no banks, or ATMs here. In case of
an emergency, you can find help at
Sheesh Mahal
Fort, Orchha. Or at
Jo Jo Travels,
Main Bazaar, Orchha.
¤ Post and Telecommunications
There is a GPO in the village but there are no STD/ISD facilities.
You’ll have to drive to Jhansi for that.
¤ Bazaars
There are no shopping malls or even a market place. A cluster of
kiosks between Sheesh Mahal and Betwa Cottages sell basics like
groceries, fruit and vegetables.
¤ Transport
Orchha is well connected by road to Jhansi and Khajuraho.
Inter-city
Buses :- These start from the stand near the crossroads of the
village. There’s a shuttle every half-hour to Jhansi and less
frequently to Khajuraho. The journey to Jhansi won’t take you
more than 30 minutes and about three and a half hourse to Khajuraho.
The first bus leaves at 0700 for both places.
Tempos :- If you want to experience rural Indian
hospitality, then there are tempos that also start from the bus stand.
The charges are the same as for buses.
Cars :- You can hire a car with driver from Sheesh Mahal or
from Betwa Cottages.
Others:- Autos and cabs will readily ferry you to and from
Jhansi. But they are highly expensive charging anything from Rs 150 to
Rs 350, depending on the integrity of the driver. You can catch these
from Sheesh Mahal or Betwa Cottages near Betwa River
Intra-city
Orchha doesn’t even have roads wide enough to accommodate buses.
You can either hail an auto rickshaw at the Sheesh Mahal or hop into a
tempo at the bus stand. But its best if you just retain the cab or car
that you have hired from Jhansi or Khajuraho. Be sure to fix fares
beforehand.

You can try simple home-cooked food at Bhola
Opposite Post office.
Hygiene and cleanliness are not priorities.
If you are particular about your evening peg, carry your own liquor
along since Orchha is a dry area.
