Bhubaneswar enjoys the status of a capital city of Orissa. During ancient times, there were nearly 2,000 temples out of which only 500 survive today. The city is a major tourist destination as well as a pilgrimage. At the distance of 7 km from Bhubaneswar lied the hills of Udaygiri and Khandagiri. The place is famous for its magnificent Jain Cave art. The caves are the creation of Kharavela around 1st - 2nd century BC for Jain monks who use to lead a secluded life praying and indulging in religious studies. The famous caves of Hathigumpha (elephant cave) in Udaygiri, RaniGumpha (Queen's cave) also in Udaygiri, spacious courtyards and remarkably steered embellishment are the witness to the elegance the architectural styles had achieved as early as the first Century BC.

Orissa's main attraction lies in the black pagoda of Konark. 62 km from Bhubaneswar- Konark is a home of famous Sun temple, a visit to this unique temple carved in a Chariot form is just awe-inspiring. Pipli town famous for its applique handicraft lies at a distance of 21 km from Bhubaneswar is also a worth-visiting site. Puri is another major tourist destination of Orissa. At a distance is 62 km Puri holds the attraction of Lord Jagannath temple and exclusive Rath Yatra (a Chariot Procession) Chilka Lake, Simlipal National Park (36km from Bhubaneswar), Barheipani -106 km, Hirakund, Duduma Waterfall are also worth seeing.

Cuttack is the former capital and one of the oldest cities of Orissa. The city nestles at the summit of the delta formed by river Mahanadi and Kathajodi. It also serves as a gateway to many tourist destinations in the region.
