The pond in the holy shrine is where Sikhs take a holy dip as an act of reparation and penance.  The other religious places of worship include the Akal Takht, Bibeskar Sahib and the Durgiana Temple. History is also an important part of Amritsar and hence nestled in the small and narrow lane is one of the most important grounds is the Jaillianwala Baug. This ground was where thousands were massacred for disobeying the orders of Imperial Raj. Another important place to visit is the Wagah Border that shared with India and Pakistan. The beating retreat ceremony is one of the most well attended by tourists every day before sunset.

Weather in Amritsar is extremely hot in the summers and particularly cold in winters with temperatures descending to as low as 3 degrees. Hence the opportunate and the best time to visit Amritsar is from October to March. There are also a large number of accommodation facilities for tourists travelling to Amritsar. Being a pilgrim destination, the budget hotels outnumber the mid-range and luxury hotels that can be found at Amritsar. During the season is advisable to to book accommodations well in advance.  There are number of budget hotels nest to holy shrines. While luxury hotels also offer various amenities and facilities.

In terms of travelling within the city, there are bus services, auto rickshaw services and cycle rickshaw services available in the city of Amritsar for tourists to take up. Cabs are also available, and you can opt for a cab in case you are travelling in a group. The Major Rail head in Amritsar connects both to the rail line in India and Pakistan. The nearest to Amritsar is that of Raja Sansi International Airport.

Apart from religious reorientation and penitential awakening Amritsar offers travelers a holistic and complete travel experience. The warmth of friendship and the depth of religious  that are the golden features of the city renders tourist to visit again and for new one to follow suit.
