Places to see in Alwar
Referred to as the gateway of Rajasthan and is also a part taker in the rich culture and history of Rajasthan. The rough and rugged terrain and the uncongenial weather experienced may not make it one of the best or the most preferred destinations. However the vast history and culture and at the same time the cultural heritage and the pleasing reception and hospitality are the features that distinguish this city.

Alwar Fort- One of the most important destinations in the city of Alwar this monument spreads over the rugged terrain and stretches from 5km form north to south and 1.6 kilometers east to west and 304 meters above the city and 585 meters above sea level. These are figures of the expanse that this fort covers and is regarded as one of the best among all the princely states in the country. The palace and fortress has a deep historical significance and is known for several instances in the past and as such is also known for the instances when Babar spent some time in the city. It is also said that Jahangir spent some of his years here in exile. The fort was finally annexed by Maharana Pratap Singh in 1775. The expansive and large fort of the city was annexed after many hardships .Apart from the history and the culture of this place the region is also known for its rich heritage that remains even today and stands as a wonder to be wondering of.
Vinay Vilas Mahal- The origins of this palace dates back to the times of 17thcentury. Vinay Vilas Mahal Exhibits an example of the outstanding architectural blend of both Mughal and Rajput architectural styles. Presently the palace houses most of the important government offices and at the same time is also for a well preserved museum that is housed on the second floor of the building.
Government Museum- This Government museum is housed in the city Palace of Alwar. The museum was established in the year 1940. The museum contains the entire collection of the Royal family. The official record of the estimates of the entire collection include 234 sculptures, 11 inscription, close to 10000 coins and 35 metal objects, 2565 paintings and artifacts,2270 arms and weapons and 1809 musical objects . From the exhibits tourists can gauge the entire collection of the Royal Family which is wonderful, unique and at the same time is the most exquisite as one can imagine.
Ajabgarh- Named after the historic founder Ajab Singh Rawat, Modhu Mohgul Emperor and related to the great emperor Akbar is an important tourist destination in the city of Alwar. Located on the dusty and torrid terrain this place is known for its accommodations and also for the various resorts that are situated in the city.
Purjan Vihar- This is not only an important tourist’s destination but also an important landmark of the city of Alwar. The place is known for the quaint and plush green lawns that are that are splendid and are well preserved even to this day. The charm of the yesteryears of the Gharana also abounds in these wonderful lawns. This place as a summerhouse and resort for the rulers, the Purjan Vihar is filled with beautiful pathways with natural beauty and vegetation some much so that the place is well shaded and was an ideal picnic spot in the former years and also for visiting tourists.
Sariska Wildlife- This is one of the thickly wooded forests in the bosom of the Aravalis hills. It is also known as one of the premier tiger reserves in the country.
Jaisamand- located 50km north of the beautiful city of Udaipur this place is picturesquely referred for its beautiful lakes. The place also houses the second largest artificial lakes in Asia.
Siliserh- On the way to Sariska, Siliserh is lake surrounded by wodded and sylvan hills. The lake was built as a result of the construction of an earthen dam. The feel of the surroundings is much like that of a European city. This is mainly because of the forested slopes of the Aravalis range. The hill offers a breathtaking view and at the same is also known for the beautiful surroundings. The place has been extensively developed by the Rajasthan Tourism Corporation Development Corporation. Boating is also preferred especially during the winters and is certainly a wonderful experience.
Alwar is also known for the vast history and cultural legacy that extends out to all travelers. The city is its legacy and the warmth of hospitality that expands to the tourists.
