Talwara-A Archaeological Site

Distance : 15km from Banswara Talwara Ganesh ji

Talwara has gained historical importance due to its ancient temples and the ruins of some old monuments. It has the temples of Laxmi Narain, Gokareshwar Mahadev and the Jain temple ofSambhar Nath. The Jain temple looks not at all like a temple but more like a chhatri (cenotaph). The roof of the temple is a domed structure invariably found in the cenotaphs of the local rulers. The Gokareshwar Mahadev is an attractive red temple with sculptured panels and a saffroned statue of Lord Vishnu. The local artists of Talwara belong to the Sompura Samaj who are widely known for their artistic skills. These artisans carve beautiful idols from the local black stone. Many of them can be spotted on the roadside chiselling out works of beauty. As a result, the place has now become an interesting shopper’s delight.
