Moti Doongri
¤ Hilltop Fort Attraction
Moti Doongri is a hilltop fort built like a Scottish castle and is
today the residence of Rajmata (Queen Mother) Gayatri Devi. The place
was previously a small fortress called Shankargarh (Shivas Foot)
but was later altered by Sawai Man Singh II on the design of a
Scottish castle. Later it was used as the venue for his innumerable
parties attended by the top socialites of his times. The Ganesh Temple
at the foot of the hill and the marvellous Birla Mandir are most
notable for their works in marble.
¤ Birla Mandir or Lakshmi Narayan Temple
The Birlas, one of the major industrialist houses in India have
dedicated shrines to Narayan (Lord Vishnu) and his consort Lakshmi
(goddess of wealth) in several cities of India. The one in Jaipur is
carved out of white marble and is one of the most magnificent
structures built in recent times. It is also one of the most popular
temples in the city and is gorgeously decorated on the occasion of
Janmasthami, the birthday of Lord Krishna. |
