Sikkim
Pelling and Khecheopari Trek
This is an interesting four day trek which takes you to the
Khecheopari Lake, then to Yuksom which leads to Tashiling, and finally
to a town called Legship. It is also possible to see the Pemayangtse
and the Tashiling Monasteries during the trek. You will cross some
pretty little villages that might give you an idea about the life of
the locals in the region.
Yuksam-Dzongri-Goccha
La Trek
You require a trekking permit for this trek and you have to be in a
group of at least four people. The nine-day trek of
Yuksam-Dzongri-Goccha La Trek is perhaps the most popular trekking
stretch in Sikkim; its highlights are the fantastic views of the
Kangchendzonga Range, the pristine woodlands of the Rathong Valley,
and some unspoilt rhododendron forests.
The trekking route starts from Yuksom and passes through Tsokha,
then goes upto Pethang that is at a height of 3,760m, before touching
Dzongri which has a trekkers hut and a gorgeous view of the mountains.
From Dzongri you move on to the Samiti Lake, and further up, you get
to the most challenging stretch of the trek to reach Goencha La, at an
altitude of 4,940m, and the highest point of the trek. It offers a
breathtaking view of the Kangchendzonga Range. After Goencha La, you
come down to Thangshing, then back to Tsokha and finally to Yuksom.
