¤ A Prefect Treck Along The Dodital Lake

Situated at an altitude of 3307m, Dodital Trekking Holidays makes an excellent trek to Dodital Lake, that lies between the Yamunotri and Gangotri mountain ranges, and is home to some of the most exotic fishes including the Himalayan golden trout. The lake is surrounded by beautiful pine and oak forests, rhododendron clusters, and has a large variety of Himalayan birds.

Dodital Lake is the source of the River Asi Ganga that merges with the River Bhagirathi near Gangotri. For a fine view of the magnificent Bandarpoonch peak (6387m), you could climb up a little from the lake. A further climb also leads to Hanumanchatti (2400m), the roadhead to Yamunotri (30km), through the Aineha pass (3667m), and offers some of the best views of the Himalayas.


¤ Itinerary

DAY 1: Drive 3km, with packed lunch, from Uttarkashi to Gangotri and take a left turn, and drive further 7km to reach Kalyani, the roadhead to the trek. A 5km steep trek through a thick forest leads to Agoda (2280m), a village situated amidst terraced fields, gives you best of your Dodital Trekking Holidays. A 100m from the village, an isolated camping ground overlooks the terraced fields and the valley. Another place where you could stay overnight is about 2km further ahead – a clean shelter of stone and wood beside a stream, with a camping ground for a backdrop. Dinner and overnight stay at Agoda.

DAY 2: Breakfast and trek 16km, with packed lunch, to Dodital. The first 8km till Manjhi is a steep climb, following which the route is more or less even. This Trekking route runs through a thick forest with a fine population of the Monal, or the Himalayan peacock. So chances of spotting a few are very high. Dinner and overnight stay at the GMVN rest house or in tent beside the lake. There are a few tea stalls that sell biscuits, noodles and eggs.

DAY 3: Breakfast and a little climb from the lake for the best view of the Bandarpoonch peak (6387m). Trekking down to the lake, then to Agoda, with packed lunch. Dinner and overnight stay at Agoda.

DAY 4: Breakfast and trek back to Kalyani, your holiday trekking destination the roadhead, and drive back to Uttarkashi.
