Pindari Glacier- Trekkers Delight

Pindari GlacierSituated at the base of the Nanda Devi group of peaks, Pindari Glacier Trekking down the river Pindar, one of the main tributaries of the River Alaknanda, is fabulous. The river originates from this glacier. The Pindari Glacier trek in Himalayas runs along the southern wilderness of the Nanda Devi Sanctuary and is bordered by beautiful landscapes and breathtaking views of heights like Panwali Dhar (6683m) and Maiktoli (6803m).

Itinerary

Day 1: Drive 132km from Almora to Loharkhet (1753m) via Kaparkhan, Taluka, Baageshwar, Kapkot and Song, with packed lunch. Loharkhet is the roadhead of the Pindari Glacier Trekking in Himalayas. Dinner and overnight stay at GMVN rest house or in tent.

DAY 2: Breakfast and trek 11km to Dhakuri (2621m), below the Dhakuri pass (2680m) through a scenic landscape, with packed lunch. Dinner and overnight stay at the GMVN rest house or the PWD bungalow, just a 100m below the pass.

DAY 3: Breakfast and trek 10km to Khati (2210m), with packed lunch. The route passes through a thick rhododendron forest. Dinner and overnight stay at the GMVN rest house or the PWD bungalow. The village hotel is another option.

DAY 4: Breakfast and trek 8km, with packed lunch, along the Pindar River to Dwali (2580m). The Pindar River meets the Kaphini River that originates from the Kaphini Glacier, at Dwali. Dinner and overnight stay at the GMVN rest house or the PWD rest house or in tent.

DAY 5: Breakfast and trek 6km to Phurkia (3260m), with packed lunch. Dinner and overnight stay at GMVN rest house or the PWD bungalow.

DAY 6: Breakfast and trek 9km, with packed lunch, to ‘Zero Point’ (4000m), the point in front of the snout of the Pindari Glacier which offers a magnificent view of the mighty Panwali Dhar peak (6683m) and the Nanda Kot peak (6876m). Trek back to Phurkia. Dinner and overnight stay at Phurkia.

DAY 7: Breakfast and trek back 14km, with packed lunch, to Khati via Dwali. Dinner and overnight stay at Khati.

DAY 8: Breakfast and trek 21km, with packed lunch, to Loharkhet. Dinner and overnight stay at Loharkhet.

DAY 9: Breakfast and drive 132km to Almora.

 Best Time for Treks: April to June, and September to October.
