Vrindavan Travel Guide
Distance : 12kms from Mathura
¤ The Holy City of Hindu Temples
It
takes just 25 minutes to reach Vrindavan from Mathura. Vrindavan is a
town rich in temples, and all the temples are important because they
are considered to be sacred.
The ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) society
has their base, Krishan Balram Mandir, in Vrindavan. This temple has
idols of Gaura-Nitai in the left altar, of Krishna-Balram in the
middle altar, and of Radha-Krishna in the right altar.
The most impressive building in Vrindavan is the Govind Dev Temple,
dedicated to the Divine Cowherd, Krishna. It was built in 1590 by Raja
Man Singh of Jaipur. Other important temples are the Rangaji Temple,
Bankey Bihari, Radha Ballabh and Madan Mohan. Among the modern temples
is the one built by the seths, or bankers of Mathura.
