Little Cormorant (Phalacrocorax Niger)
This waterfowl has a shimmering black
feathered coat with a white patch on the throat, a long stiff tail and
a slender bill sharply hooked at the tip. When satiated with its
fishing expedition it perches itself atop a rock or stake near the
water, drying itself with outstretched wings often giving away a
beautiful picture. Flocks of the little cormorant are often seen
hunting in concert with pelicans.

Found In
This bird can be found singularly or in flocks on many inland waters,
brackish lagoons and tidal creeks throughout Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri
Lanka and Myanmar. Watching a little cormorant fish is a sheer delight
as this expert diver and submarine swimmer chases the fish right under
the water, disappearing under water for couple of seconds or more
before reappearing in a flash. |
