Roseringed Parakeet (Psittacula Krameri)
Ask somebody in India-Which is
your favourite bird ? and the answer comes almost unwittingly-
Tota. Roseringed parakeet is unchallenged cage-bird of India.
Large numbers of young are taken away from the nest to sell in the
market. Male, standing at the height of 42 cms, is smaller version of
Alexandrine Parakeet, but it lacks maroon shoulder patches. Female
lacks the black and rose-pink collar of male.

¤ Found In
Large flock can be found all over the Indian Sub-continent, from the
foothills of Himalayas to the southern parts of the country.
Agriculture-wise it is very destructive...is known for wasting more
and eating less. With its hard and curved bill it is capable of
eating a wide variety of foods ranging from the fruits to hard and
spicy nuts.
It is also one of the circus birds, it loads and releases toy cannons
very efficiently, drives bird-cycle and enjoys swings. It
has a loud, sharp screaming call- keeak, keeak, keeak... the female
lays four to six pure white, roundish or oval eggs. Both the parents
share domestic duties. |
