¤ About The Nagarhole National
Park
Nagarhole National Park is one of the best wildlife parks of India
located in a small district of Kodagu and Mysore. The Nagarhole
National Park was set up in 1955 as a sanctuary and later on converted
into a National park in 1975. It got its new name as Rajiv Gandhi
National Park after the late Prime Minister of India.Government has
launch the wildlife conservation programes to preserve the wildlife in
the park.
Nagarhole name has been derived from the Kannada words-'nagar'
meaning snake and 'hole' meaning flowing streams that well suits it,
as number of streams and snake menders through its rich tropical
forests.
Nagarhole Wildlife Sanctuary is home to the tiger as well as other
wild animals and 250 bird species. Located aside the river Kabini, the
dam and the reservoir of Kabini river makes a natural barrier
separating the two wildlife sanctuaries - Bandipur and Nagarhole - in
Karnataka.

Once an exclusive hunting reserve of the erstwhile rulers of Mysore,
Nagarhole National Park is dotted with lush green vegetation, marshy
land and numerous waterholes, making it an ideal habitat for a diverse
variety of wildlife. The Park mainly consists of deciduous forest.
Plantations of teak, Rosewood, bamboo, sandal, silver oak trees and
species of eucalyptus cover most of the area of the park.

The wild life treasures of Nagarhole National Park are mammals like
four-horned antelope, sloth bear, jungle cat, civet, spotted deer,
elephant, wild dog, flying fox, tiger, panther, Indian bison, wild
boar, and pangolin.
The park is also rich in its reptile population, cobras, crocodiles,
pythons, vipers, and several species of lizards are also found here.
Among the 250 bird species found here, the most spotted ones are the
common babbler, bee-eater, bulbul, crested serpent, hornbill, peacock,
woodpecker, great Indian reed, eagle and the southern tree pie.

Best time to visit Nagarhole National Park is during the summer
months when the weather is dry, during this season the wild animals
can easily be spotted in large numbers near the water holes or rivers
relaxing with their infants or taking a great bath in the water.

Brahmagiri Mountains-an inviting destination for those who wish to go
for trekking. Prior permission is required from the authorities before
