National Bal Bhawan Museum

Bal bhavan was set up in 1951 by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, In the 1950s, after the dawn of Indian independence, when India was witnessing the emergence of many progressive programmes for its development, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru conceived the idea of a Bal Bhavan. He dreamed of it as a place where children, irrespective of their gender, caste, creed, colour, or class, could participate in the activities of their choice and realize the creative potential lying hidden in them. He felt that the formal education system left little scope for the overall development of the child’s personality and envisioned Bal Bhavan as a place, which could fill this gap by offering an environment for a more complete development of the child. This formed the basis of the establishment of Bal Bhavan which is worth visiting once for families as well as children. Bal bhavan is closed on Sundays and Mondays and on rest of the days it is opened between 9.00am to 5:30pm.
