Blackberry q10 and Z10 unveiled

Blackberry rebooted, rebranded in a bid to reinvent itself in the worldwide market

1996 was a red letter year for Canadian manufacturer Research in Motion (RIM). This was the year the company launched its first blackberry device. The company stated at the time that the wireless device would change the face of business for ever. What followed was dominance for almost more than a decade. Now with global proportion of BB smart phone slipping to 4.6 % last year the company has traded its dominance for survival. The Blackberry q10 and z10 unveiled by the company on 30 January, 2013 can be seen as the company’s comeback effort. Equipped with a new operating system and sleek new headsets this phone is indeed by merit was worth the wait. Even today as analysts and researchers may seem confused about the device and its future.

The Z10 and its sibling phone the Q10 operate on new Blackberry10 platform. The distinctive features both of blackberry devices is the unique platform wide interface, the new intelligent keyboard that optimizes picture quality. The phone’s user interface is also equipped with 8 “Active frames that shows live feeds information on the home screen. This phone is more than just gestures and a new inbox view. The BB comes with four main gestures that include two for the home screen, one for checking notifications and the other for showing the phones options. Multitasking is seamless on the device. The switcher and the task killer options require a tap on the lower right X found on the application.

However there is no way to permanently pin applications to the home screen as they are integrated to a new application. The Hub serves more than just a notification centers and lets users check social and business accounts all in one place without having to launch a whole range of applications. Business users are not disappointed as all needed features are integrated to the hub. However the phone does have it downsides. Firstly the maps are not reliable. Voice recognition is below par as compared to an Apple or windows device. The camera app of the phone could have been included with more features. However one shortcoming that would remain for sometime is the lack of apps in Blackberry world store.

The Blackberry q10 and Z10 comes with essentional features that please both professional and personal users. It’s rebranded and rebooted avatar not without cons. But these that can be worked upon. In short Blackberry does invent the BB brand both for the faithful and those who want to a good and reliable business phone.
