•Verdict- Another perfect example of mindless masala through the eyes of the director.
After watching through Himmatwala you may find it hard to make up your mind as to whether this film is spoof or tribute to the nostalgic and colorful cinematic era of the 80’s. My take on the same, the film lingers between these two extremes. A typical revenge saga of the 1980’s, Himmatwala ploys on the story of Ravi (Ajay Devgn) a street fighter who seeks to avenge his father’s death and also seeks justice for his village. Sher Singh’s daughter (Tamannaah) falls for the Ravi and joins the plotting against her father.
Had this film been directed by someone else it would certainly pan out to be a laugh riot. The treatment to the script is the main flaw and the director seems to grapple with the story so much so that by the climax the plot is derailed completely. The so called dialogue baazi fails to achieve its purpose and humour falls flat. However this film does manage to grab attention in phases. In terms of individual performances lead actor Devgn does his best to hold the flimsy script together with his performance.
Bollywood newbie Tamannaah Bhatia does manage to grab eyeballs with her  flawless skin show and dance. Songs Tathaiya Tathaiya and Taki Taki  are both sure to feature in the list of top party songs for 2013. Another strong point of the film is the performance of Paresh Rawal.
Himmatwala is a perfect example of mindless masala through the eyes of director Sajid Khan. As mentioned at the start there is still confusion whether this film is tribute or spoof of popular cinematic formula of the 1980’s which revolved around helpless mother and daughter redeemed by a Himmatwala.  Finally the ranking, one star for the two songs one star for Paresh Rawal’s acting.
