IITB to power Aakash 2 tablets for classrooms

In the midst of the brewing debate of whether the Aakash Tab 2 was made in China, India or Canada, the tablet’s first consignment was sent to the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. The second version of the Tab is packed with more features than its first edition. These features are aimed at changing the entire outlook of Indian classrooms with various tools and applications. As part of an exercise to revolutionize education, the A2 would not be sold in the Indian market. Instead close to 20,000 engineering students would be given the tab to build a fuller machine for higher versions.

Head of Kanwal Rekshi School of Information Technology at the IIT- Bombay is heading this project with 11,000 teachers and 20,000 students.

New Features of Aakash Tab 2 or A2

The low cost A2 is powered by Cortex A8 700 MHz processer and is enabled with Andriod v 2.3 operating system. Apart from this the other features of the tab include

Features for Students and Teachers

There is an application in the Aakash 2 that enables teachers to conduct an instant quiz in class. Known as a teacher student collaborative feature for now, this application allows teachers to test students about the lectures in class and also find the response for the same. For e.g. a professor can post a question and the students can answer the same on their tablet. The data is collated within mere seconds and it is allows professor to find out who gave the right answer and who did not follow what was taught in class.
