Spot Fixing and Indian Problem League potboiler

Spot Fixing and Indian Problem League potboiler

The Indian Premier League finally plunges slowly into quicksand of problems without recourse. The league once seen as the savior of cricket with its interactive format and promise of granting life to the other formats is facing its biggest and what can be best be described as irreparable scar ever. Not that that fixing has not tarnished the game of cricket but the sheer magnanimity of the incident makes its serious.

Betting is certainly not an issue it was there at 70’s and 80’s but fixing is a certainly a malice that if gone unchecked who bring an end to the credibility of the gentlemen’s game.

Within almost two weeks of breaking of this news the story has gone way beyond bounds and has reached dimension that few an average cricket fan would have expected. Former test cricketer S. Sreeshanth and players Ankeet Chavan and Ajith Chandila two weeks on are just the tip of the iceberg. While all three have confessed to their role there have been new developments every passing day the Spot Fixing and Indian Problem League (IPL) potboiler is turning murkier.

While the BCCI has declared a no tolerance stands to corruption the rout reaches out to even to the top brass. The latest development and allegations now pointing out to the Chief Executive of a top participating team.

On Thursday the Mumbai Police travelled to Chennai to issue a summons against the CSK Team Principal Gurunath Meiyappan who has been linked by Vindoo Dara Singh, arrested for his involvement that has been proved.

According to latest news the alleged also confessed to have bet money on an ICC T20 world tournament. Mr N Srinivasan the BCCI president who came out last Sunday stating the board’s stand has yet to speak about the turnaround of events a week later.

For once the Playoff and the Business end of the tournament is not important anymore. The Spot Fixing IPL potboiler has taken center stage. Though there has been an effort on the part of players to do their best the fomer does not seem to diminish or die for now.

The tournament that reaches its climax on Sunday has suffered from issues of ethics, governance, gambling corruption allegations and a serious of confessional denials from the fixers to a reluctant top brass.
