Deepika Padukone as an actress  offered  variety in terms of characterization at the start of her career, however of late the actress has been stereotyped  in feisty and outgoing roles. Understanding this she has now decided to concentrate on doing different roles. Her upcoming movie list ably asserts the same. Moreover she can certainly be counted as an actress who can do her job to the best of what is expected of her.

Deepika Padukone Early Life and modeling Career- Deepika was born to Prakash Padukone and Ujalla Padukone on the 5th January 1986 in Copenhagen in Denmark. Her father is a former All England Champion Badminton Champion and her mother worked as a travel agent. At the time of her birth her parents was training in Denmark. When Deepika turned eleven her family moved to Bangalore. She attended Sophia High School in Bangalore and completed her pre university studies at Mount Carmel College at Bangalore.

At high school she did play Badminton but had not intentions whatsoever to pursue it as a career. During the time of her debut films she enrolled in the Indira Gandhi National Open Universities in Bachelors of Arts (Sociology).Deepika started modeling in college itself. She was spotted at the ramp competition in NLS, Bangalore. Over the years she has modeled for various brands. Prior to appearing in films she also appeared in music video for Himesh Reshammiya's song "Naam Hai Tera".

Deepika Padukone Film Career- Not many know that Deepika made her debut with the film Upendra in Kannada in 2006. However Om Shanti Om (2007) was the film that catapulted her to stardom. She essayed the dual role in Farah Khan directed, Shah Rukh starrer movie. The film was well accepted and the actress earned critical acclaim. After all  it is no easy job  for an actress to share screen space with one of the biggest names in the industry. She followed this with her role in Bachna Ae Haseeno. However the actress' performance in the movie was criticized as unconvincing.

Her Next film Chandi Chowk to China directed by Nikhil Advani was a commercial disaster. Critics named her listless and forlorn in the roles that she essayed. Her next film was Love Aaj Kal (2009). It documented the changes in the relationships among the youth. The film did well but the critics admitted that her performance was not up to the mark. In the same year she also did several cameos. First an item song in Billu Barber.  She made guest appearances in the Telegu film Love 4 ever and in Sohail Khan's Main Aur Mrs Khanna. Her next film Karthik calling Karthik  saw her essaying the role of a supportive girlfriend to a schizophrenic man. However the film was a commercial failure.

Her next film Housefull was a success at the box office and critics termed her performance as confident. Her next film Lafangey Parande was an example of her acting talent. She followed it with Kunal Kholi’s Break Ke Baad which did average business at the box office. However the actress was appreciated for her spontaneous and apt performance.  Her next film in 2010 was Khele Hum Jee Jaan Se, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker starring Abhishek Bachchan. The film about the Chittagong uprising did not do that well at the box office. However she was praised for the way she handled her role. She began the year 2011 with an item number in Rohan Sippy's Dum Maaro Dum starring Abhishek Bachchan and Bipasha Basu.

Her song was a remixed version of Zeenat Aman’s iconic number from Hare Rama Hare Krishna. The raunchy lyrics and suggestive dancing received mixed reviews. Araakshan was moderate hit and critics stated that she had truly come of age as an actress. Desi Boyz that followed averaged moderately at the box office. Her last film Cocktail where she essayed the role of unapologetic and zesty material girl earned her praise and accolades. It can well be described as one of her best performances.

Deepika Padukone Upcoming movies- The actress will be seen alongside Rajnikanth in Soundarya Rajnikanth’s magnum opus film Kochadaiyaan. This film will release in the first half of 2013. She will also be seen in Ayan Mukerji's Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani opposite ex-boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor and Race 2 alongside Saif Ali Khan, Anil Kapoor, John Abraham, Jacqueline Fernandez and Ameesha Patel. She has also signed Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Ram Leela, as confirmed by co-star Ranveer Singh. Apart from that the actress has also started shooting for the third schedule of Rohit Shetty’s Chennai Express, starting SRK.
 

Deepika Padukone Personal Life and Philanthropy- In March of 2008 the actress was said to be dating her co star Ranbir Kapoor. After her breakup and the series of events leading up to it, she has tried to keep her personal life out of media glare. In 2010 she started dating Siddharth Mallya however the couple broke up in 2012.  The actress also writes a column in HT City. As far as charity is concerned the actress adopted Ambegaon, a village in Maharashtra, that was facing a major electricity crisis.

On thinking before speaking- “I always think before I speak. I'm not the sort who will just say anything that comes to my mind. I'm a very emotional and sensitive person. But I'm also very strong and know my mind well.”
Not believing in size zero –“Correct me if I am wrong, but I personally feel that the Indian body type is not cut out to be size zero. I am not size zero and I don't believe in that either,”

Deepak Padukone Controversies- Deepika Padukone has been no stranger to controversy. The most significant being the episode in Koffee with Karan when the actress along with Sonam Kappor made fun of the actor of actor Ranbir Kapoor. Apparently actor Rishi Kapoor was not happy with the statements. Another instance of controversy was with the actress' song Dum Maro Dam had veteran actors upset about the same.  Although she has stated in interviews that "Controversies are unwelcome" and she tries to keep aloof from the same she has always been embroiled in them.


Deepika Padukone has to contend for her place in the industry. However she has the prowess and still has a long way to go as far as career is concerned.
