Ravichandran was virtually unnoticed before the IPL. His stint with the Chennai Super kings and in particular his carom ball bowling technique that became synonymous with Sri Lanka’s Ajanatha Mendis earned him a place in the Indian colors. His ability to turn the ball with efficiency and accuracy has been the major reason. Apart from that, in all Indian bowlers who have represented Indian colors has one of the best wickets in all the matches he has represented in tests. Apart form that Ashwin has also proved his prowess with the bat in playing innings when the team required him and at the same scored invaluable performances for team.

EARLY LIFE- Very Little is said about Ravichandran before the IPL. Ashwin was born into Hindu Brahmin Family. He attended Padma Sheshadri Bala Bhavan and St. Bede High School and completed his B Tech in Information Technology. Ashwin’ father Ravichandran also represented Tamil Nadu in competitive cricket. However the performance in the Indian Premier League earned a Indian calling.

CAREER- Not many know that Ravichandran Ashwin made his debut for Tamilnadu against  Andhra Pradesh. However he earned a name with the Indian Premier League and emerged in contention for the Indian team after he was highest Wicket taker of the 2010 playing for the Chennai Super kings with 13 wickets and also won the golden wicket award. He starred with outstanding performances and also has the best economical rate in the IPL. He made his debut in ODI’s against Sri Lanka, India Lost the game. He also was part of the Indian squad for the world cup and took 2 wickets for 52 wickets. In 40 games he took 56 games at an average of 30.50.

In test matches had made his debut against West Indies and that too earning a test cap in place of Sachin Tendulkar. He made an impression in the first test series by his performances and was named man of the series for his performances and also scored his maiden international century in the same series helping India to draw a match. In the New Zealand series Ashwin took 18 wickets at a miserly average of 13.11 and earned his second man of the series title. Ashwin’s performances saw him breaking into the top 20 bowlers in his second test series as well.

•12/85 Best figures in a match is the best and bettered  Venkat Ragahavan record and is second in comparison to Courtney Walsh.
•Third Indian to score a century and 5 wickets in the same game. (103, and 5/135)
•Fourth Indian to be given Man of Match on debut
•Most Economical bowler of the IPL at 6.12
•49 wickets from 8 matches is the best test performance by an Indian bowler
•2nd best bowling on debut by an Indian bowler with 9/128 performance, behind Hirwani’s 16-wicket world record debut performance.

Best Performances
•6/31 against New Zealand at Hyderabad 2012
 This is one of his best performances in the Test matches and at the same time is another example of his bowling prowess and proclivity. He virtually uprooted New Zealand innings and rendered the best performance in a game. It is his best performance and has proved his ability beyond bonds.

•6 for 47 against New Zealand at Hyderabad in the same match 2012
This is his second best figures in the match and it came in the second innings. The bowling performance completed his best innings in the match and at the same earned him the man of the match.

•103 V/s West Indies at Mumbai,2011
Ashwin played this innings when India wanted it. The carom style bowler stared in the match with his 103 that held the teams draw the match. The bowler played the inning that his team required and in the process scored his first century and became the 17th player to a century and five wickets in the same game.
