It is not easy to sustain in an industry is filled with immortal names like the great Rajnikanth and Kamal Hassan. However making a name in the industry with distinctive performance defines the caliber and mettle of an actor. He has established himself as one of the leading contemporary of his times.  He established himself as an actor who wholeheartedly keeps up to the expectations of each character and has been one of the most dependable actors in terms of characterization.

Suriya Early Life- Saravanan was born to actor Sivakumar and Laxmi in Chennai and was then bought up in Coimbatore. He is the eldest of three children his younger brother is Kathik and he has a young sister named Brindha Sivakumar. Saravanan schooled at the PSSB School and Bede School in Chennai and then graduated his Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce from the St. Loyola College.

Suriya Film Career- Suriya debuted with the film Nerkku Ner (1997) which was directed by Vasanth and produced by Mani Ratnam. It was invariably difficult for the actor who started out in the industry starring in different roles.  However he was noticed more for his performance in the films Friends (2001) directed by Siddique and Nandan Bala. For his performance in the movie the actor was awarded the Tamilnadu State Award for Best Actor. He followed with films like ‘Unnai Ninathane ‘and ‘Mounam Phasiyade’. In 2003 he did the film Kakaa Kakaa. This was incidentally the actor’s first role as an officer in the box office. He followed it with his performance in the film Pithamagan. In this critically acclaimed Suriya played the role of a happy go lucky thief.

For his performance in the movie the actor earned the Best Supporting Actor of the year from Filmfare. 2004 was a year of significance as far as the actor was concerned he acted in three really good films that earned him both critical and commercial acclaim. The first Perazhagan (2005). The film was remake of the 2002 Malayalam Film Kunji kunnan. The actor played the role of handicapped booth owner and his life. The second was the film Ezhuthu based on George Reddy a student leader who was forced in Hyderabad in the 1960’s and 70’s. Finally Ghajini in which the actor essayed the role of a person suffering short terms memory loss and having to contend with the death of his girlfriend. In the following year the actor set up his own production company Studio Green.

In 2006 the actor acted alongside his wife Jyothika in the film Sillunu Oru Kaadhal. In 2007 the actor acted in sole film Vel. The actor experienced a emergence in his career with his films since 2008 and it started with Vaaranam Aayiram. The film was critically appreciated and the actor bagged several best actor awards for his performance. Kamal Hassan in praise of the actor’s rendition stated that Suriya truly proved his creditionals as a versatile actor.  Suriya next film Ayan also did well at box office and the critics stated the actor’s ability to refrain from being stereotyped. In 2010 he acted in his 25 starter Singham.

The film was a runaway hit and also critically acclaimed.  The actor then went on to star in Ram Gopal Varma Rakht Charitra which did well in Tamil. After this he made his appearance in three consecutive films that include Manmadhan Ambhu starring Trisha and Madhavan, KV Anand Ko and Bala’s Avan Avan. In 2012 He featured in AR Murgadoss science fiction thriller ‘7aum Arivu’. His recent release Maattrraan where received mixed responses.  In 2012 he starred as the host for the television Neengalum Vellalam Oru Kodi   which is the Tamil version of  Who wants to be a Millionaire.

Suriya Upcoming movies- Suriya upcoming movie include Singham 2 a sequel to his 2010 blockbuster Singham.  He is also set to play the main lead role in Gautam Menon Thuppariyum Anandan.

Suriya Personal Life- After several years of being engaged and in courtship the actor married Jyothika in 2006. They have two children Divya and Dev. The actor has been very low key in terms of his personal life.  His interest includes reading listening to music and he is also an avid travel bug.  The actor is also a gym fanatic and loves to work.

Suriya philanthropy and Social Service- In 2006 he began the Argam foundation which for the welfare of students who are unable to complete their education. For this purpose he also appeared in a series of advertisements produced by the Ministry of education Tamilnadu.  The organization works towards appreciating and providing learning opportunities for studies.  He has also been an active part of the ‘Save the Tiger Campaign’ and also a part of REACH that provides  supervised medication for  TB patients.

Suriya Controversies- The actor has never involved himself in any sort of controversy.  The actor denied reports of any sort of controversies regarding his pack packet.  Tabloids and Rumor mills were abuzz with news that  the actor was asking for a bigger pack check.  7aam Arivu  sparked a controversy regarding the portrayal of Bodhi Dharman, a Pallava prince, who migrated to China and became the Shaolin master. The followers of Buddhism have raised objections over the facts provided about the monk in the movie.
