Ita Fort

The Ita is a testimony of a bygone era and the bastion of the  Ahom empire that  ruled the north eastern territory in the in around the 12 century. Situated in an area of almost one square kilometer the forth derives its name from the bricks that were used for construction of the fortress. Today it might be in its splendor but even in its present form is a reminder of the dynasty and the distinctive architectural style.  At the time of the construction it was indeed an architectural marvel. The construction of such a fortress was said to be done with eight million bricks and 45000 workmen.



Considering that this place was not at all conducive to construction.  The fort has 12 gates in total with three gates each on four directions of north south east and west. For those interested in exploration this is a perfect place to explore and understand the rich history of the region and at the same time a perfectly place of tranquility and has a very mystic and serene ambience that welcomes tourists.
