Powa Mecca is considered an important place of worship especially for the Muslims visiting the shrine. The temple has a lot of significance and religious symbolism. A inscription stone in the temple indicates that this mosque built in the byzantine style of architecture was made during the time of king Shahajahan. The mosque also houses the remains of the evangelist of the Muslim faith who took the first efforts of spreading the faith in the Gyasuddin Ahulia. His tomb rests in the mosque. It is firmly believed that the sand from and holy earth from Mecca was used in the construction of the temple.
