Places to see in Mapusa
Mapusa is an important destination on the tourist map. The reason for this it offers a convergence of both commercialization and at the same time is also preferred as a tourist destination. The city is known for the highly organized setup and as such is also known for the farming community and a strong marketing community. The Farming community is known as gaunkari and as such is an important part of the city. Despite being densely populated, Mapusa is also known for organized setup and has become one of the most important tourist destinations on the travel map of Goa and one that cannot be neglected.
Hence the places to visit in Mapusa are:
Mascarenhas Mansion- The Mansion is a classic example of the architecture and the Portuguese heritage. The most striking features of this mansion is the style of construction and the panes of the windows are stain glassed. The construction of the house has been built in expensive wood and as such is seen in most of the carvings of the plot. The mansion can well be called an open textbook in terms of Portuguese architecture and style of construction. This is very significant but and true that each and every aspect of the construction style is followed in some way or the other by many other houses in the inner Goathans and. The characteristic feature of the L shaped porch that is used right at the beginning of the mansions. Its influence still remains however never there are no such constructions still made and as such this is surely a place to visit.
Sri Kalika temple- The Shri Kalika Temple is an important temple destination in North Goa and devotees flock in from all corners of Goa and as well as neighboring states. The temple exhibits both ancient and contemporary style of architecture. The temple dedicated to the Goddess Kali is revered both and worship and as such the customs and the traditions of the temple are performed everyday in compliance. The temple also exudes a deep ambience of devotion and fervent religious fervor that resounds in the chants and the prayers that are offered.
Shri Monjee temple- This Hindu place of worship is another example of a religious place that brims in religious fervor and devotion. Situated at about 15 km from the main city of Mapusa, it is a both a preferred tourist destination and at the same time an important pilgrimage place as well. The Shri Monjee temple enshrines the deities of Bogheshwar and Baba Kanakeshwar. The devotion of this place is just awe inspiring as both devotees and tourists visit the temple and fervently pray while some meet the observances. The deity of the temple is set to fulfill the wishes of the devotees who pray with earnest and unwavering devotion and in true confidence as well.
Church of St.Jerome- The Church of St. Jerome is an important tourist destination. The Church of St. Jerome was built over the ruins of an old ancient monastery and is said to be around 410 years old. The church is dedicated to St. Jerome who is revered in the church as a theologian and for his efforts to understanding and translating the holy bible. There is an ornate and well adorned altar in that is dedicated to the Our Lady of Miracles. The festive days of Our lady of Miracles is celebrated for three days on the first Monday after Easter. The peculiar feature of the church is both Christians and Hindus alike. It is also believed that the Hindu Festival of Zara also has a symbolism to our lady of the Miracles.
Anjuna Beach- Anjuna is the picturesque and picture perfect beaches that cannot be missed while on stay in Goa. The beach is hub for tourists visiting and is particularly known for its coconut groves, The Wednesday Flea and night parties and bustling nightlife. It is place where tourists come and have a wonderful time and let their hair loose. The beach is also preferred spot for water sport as the currents are not strong and as such is a wonderful spot to spend some quality time.
Calangute Beach- Calangute beach is a census town, but is more known for the beach. This beach is known for its golden sand that shimmers in the sun. This is one of the largest and at the same time is also one of the most commercialized beaches in Goa and is visited by tourists all over the India and foreigners alike. The peak season that witnesses the maximum amount of visitors in Calangute is the festive time, during Christmas and New Year celebrations. In addition, the May month is a distinguished time among visitors. During the monsoon months from June- September the place remains isolated as the rough sea and tides make it dangerous to swim and enjoy at the beach.
Municipal Market- The reason for adding the Municipal market in particular is the Friday Market. The Friday market attracts tourists not only form Mapusa but also around the entire towns of Goa as well as visiting tourists. This is the traditional market day for Mapusa and as such goods are sold at reasonable prices. This Friday fair has special goods such as, vegetables, local fruits, spices, dry-fruits, agricultural products, clothes and so on. There is also a fish market, displaying the various sea fishes. The market is a pleasure to visit. It has everything which you can expect to find in a fair or a market.
