Places to see in Shimla

Shimla is a gorgeous hill station and is unique for its unparallel beauty and shimmering glory. Shimla is set in the backdrop of the majestic hills and is known for the lush green and wooded forests. Places to see in Shimla

The places  to visit in Shimla are:

Kufri- Located 16 kms from the city of Shimla, Kufri is known for its quaint is known for its skiing slopes and panoramic view of the entire scenic beauty of Shimla. The dense forests of the Kufri mountains are also known for the dense forests which have a wide variety of trees and also rare species of plant and animals. The Added attraction of Kufri is the mini zoo in the dense forests sprawling around 20 acres of land and has flora and plants that are similar to those found in the Himalayan region. The zoo is also known for the wild animals that include 140 wild animals of these the important species include Tibetan wolf, brown bear and barking deer. There are other popular wild animals’ species in the Mini zoo such as leopard, Ghoral, Samber, Himalayan Thar, Yak, black bear and number of pheasant’s varieties. Himalayan Nature in Kufri is also an important zoo spread over 90 hectares of land.

Shimla State Museum- There is no other place where tourists and visitors can understand Shimla better and vividly than the Shimla State Museum. Opened for public viewing since 1974, the museum has on exhibit some of the facts like art Archeology and cultural artifacts of the hill station that are unique and have been collected over the years.  There are almost 900 objects on display that have been connecting and chronologically track form the pre historic time to the wood carvings and archeological artifacts. Apart from that museums also has other artifacts on displays like Rajasthani Paintings and is also known for contemporary paintings and artifacts as well.

Jakhu hills- Jakhu hills are situated two kilometers from the Shimla and is located at an elevation of 8000 feet. In geographical terms Jakhu Hills is the highest peak and offers tourists a panoramic view of the snow laden clandestine hills as well as the stunning sight of the entire town. At the top of Jakhu hill there is a small temple that is dedicated to the Lord Hanuman. Either by geographical placement or by divine intervention the temple premise is also home for countless monkeys who reside and are fed by the visitors to the temple.

Summer Hills- Situated at a distance of 5 km form Shimla and the ridge. More than a hill Summer hills is are a lovely township with all the modern facilities and is located at and elevation of 6500 kms above sea level. The Shimla Kalkha railway line also passes through the summer hills. Summer hills also offer a number of facilities and accommodations for travelling tourists. The quietude and the stillness of the place is awe inspiring specially for those who wish for solitude and thirst for a peaceful holiday abode. The Father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi used to spend some time in this quiet and peaceful location. The University fo Himachal Pradesh is also located here.

Christ Church- Situated in Himachal Pradesh, Christ church was opened for public veneration in the year 1844.Built on hill lock the church offers Gothic Style of architecture and is known for the Anglican style that is characteristic of most of the churches in the region. The church fall under the religious purview of the church of England. The church in its present form does bear the signs of being outdated. However the inner sanctum along with the stain glass panes and the majestic high altars ably supported by the wooden high vaulted ceilings conceal to a certain extent the results of haphazard wring.

Tara Devi Temple- The Tara Devi temple is situated on the Tara parvat or mountains. Situated with lush green meadows on either side the Tara Devi temple offers a natural ambience that is perfect for prayer and meditation. Devotes throng the Tara Devi temple in order to seek blessings from the diety and also come here to re orient themselves in the faith.

Sankat Mochan- This is a popular tourist and spot and houses a small Hanuman temple that is eagerly and fervently visited by devotees. From the mountain top, tourists cans also get a closer view of the whole of Shimla.

Mashobra- This is one of the most easily accessible location in and around Shimla  and is also popular as a tourist destination surrounded with oak trees and green vegetation and orchids that render the feeling of a good old picnic destination. This destination welcomes tourists annually for the Sipi Fair that is conducted with pomp and grandeur trying to better the feel of the previous years.

Wildflower Hall- Wild flower hall is situated about 13 kms from the city of Shimla. Wildflower Hall is nestled among the sylvan and woody surroundings. The reasons for the name are the wide variety of flora that is available in the open much resembling a verdant hall. This place is truly a marvel of nature because it is amiable and implausible during the winters.
Fruit Research Station- This is one of the biggest fruit research stations in the country.

Chail- Once the summer capital of the Maharaja of Patiala. The verdant landscapes comes alive with a variety of flora and fauna.
