Madikeri Fort
This place occupies an important position in the history of Coorg. The palace built by Muddaraja built in the 17th century. Later on the temple was remade in granite by the leader of the South Tipu Sultan. Today the fort serves as the official residence of the district collector. The remnants of the old fort are the tortoise formation that remains to this day. The north East corner of the fort is also known as the entrance that is known for the stone sculptures of two life size elephants.
Towards the south east corner there is also Anglican church that has been converted into a museum by the archeological society. The museum houses historical artifacts, along with a section dedicated to Field Marshal Cariappa. Besides museum, this fort also houses a district prison, the Kote Maha Ganapati Temple and the Mahatma Gandhi Public Library.
