Sri Krishna temple and mutt- Sri Krishna Temple is also and regarded among one of the seven places of pilgrimage. The unique feature of the temple is that the deity can only be worshipped by a hole and the nine vents that are made especially for this purpose. The tradition of getting a glimpse of the deity through the window has been a pious and followed tradition that has been followed since the time the temple was opened to the public for veneration. Apart from this Udupi is also famed for Sri Madhavacahrya who attributed as the founder of the Diwta philosophy. There are a number of traditions and ritual observances that are carefully followed in the temple. The seven Ustavas is considered as one of the most scared and important festivals that are oberserved in the temple. The other festivals include Shri Madhav Navmi and Holi. Apart from the pristine temple dedicated to Sri Krishna there are also many mutts that are associated with the temple. The main mutts that associated with the Sri Krishna Temple include Sri Plamar Mutt, Sri Adhamar Mutt, Krishanpuram Mutt, Puttige Mutt, and Sirsur Mutt and finally the Kaniyoor and Pejavoor Mutt. Kapu Beach- Kapu Beach also referred to as Kaup is one of the main attractions in the temple town of Udupi. From an Ariel view the beach is filled with lush green plantations that circumvent the entire beach. The hard sanded strained clear beach sand and the clear waters make for the best beach outing that one can expect. The decked line of boats of the Fishermen along the coast is also a sight to behold. The environment around the beach is simply peaceful and is a perfect destination specially for those who are interested in spending some silent moments in peace and enjoying and soaking in the ambience of the sea shore. The light house of the shore is also an important attraction and as such offers a picturesque view of the entire coast decked together in one view.
Malpe Beach- Malpe Beach offers the tourists the most quaint and pleasant setting of the seashore. The contrasting colors of the deep blue sky and the waters are complimented with the shimmering sand that surrounds the entire beach. There are also three rocky islands along the stretch and the expense of the Malpe beach. Tourists flock to the beach in search of tranquility and also a perfect place for the spend the weekends. The beach also offers the idyllic prospects of angling, fishing and is also suitable for those are interested taking in the waters.
St. Mary’s beach- This is one of the most important tourist’s destinations in Udupi. The characteristic feature of the beach is the rock basalt formations that are crystals in columns and as such is also hexagonal in shape. Situated at about 58 kilometers from the city of Mangalore. The beach is completely different in comparison to the other beaches in Udupi. Firstly the terrain of the beaches is not as soft as the other beaches and is also known for its hard and tough rocky terrain. The reason for this being the beach is filled with rock formations. Hence this beach is not suitable for swimming. It is said of the beach that the Great Portuguese Traveler Vasco Da Gama landed on the shores before enroute to Kappad, Calicut. He called the beached ‘El Pardon Santa Maria’. The northern most island of the beach is situated with one of the most expansive coconut grove that almost covers the entire coast.
