Patiala is an important and integral part of the state of Punjab. Known as the land of Alam the literally meaning of Patiala, the city is known for a number of things. Mainly the Turbans the traditional headgear that is worn by the Sikhs, the parandha that is braiding of the hair and for a history and culture.
Apart the city also offers a piece of the Panjabi Culture. Hence the places to see in Patiala are:
Quila Mubarak- Situated on 10 acres of land in the heart of the city Quila Mubarak is the main palace of the Quila Androon that is the hidden fort. Outside this majestic that houses the interior fort, Rann Baas and Darbar hall. These offer a convergence of the architectural style of both Mohgul and Punjabi architecture. Outside the Quila is situated Shiv temple and the bazaar that are located within the vicinity. Tourists visit the place because of the quaintness and the quietude that is surrounds this place despite being in the heart of the city.
Rang Mahal and Sheesha Mahal- This is monumental in terms of artistic value as it has a collection of frescos and paintings that are housed in these two Mahal. Apart from that the Mahal also a collection of hand paintings and mirror works that found. The Rang Mahal also has a collection of paintings pertaining to the Vishnu avatar as and various royal paintings and has a gallery and evidently exhibits the work of Rajasthani, Palari and Awadhi Traditions.
Jalau Khana and Sard Khana- The Jalau Khana is simplistic two storied building that is constructed in typical colonel style of architecture while the Sard Khana served as a an abode for the summer heat. Lachman Jhoola- This is a replica of the Laxman Jhoola that was constructed and spreads across from the across the lake from Sheesh Mahal to Bansar Garh that are located over the lake. This is a rope suspension bridge and as such is a marvel in its self.
Bhir Moti Baug- This is 1,600 acre forests that are located on the outskirts. Originally served as the hunting preserves of the Maharajas. Apart from that it also houses a zoo, deer park and a and a medicinal garden.
Rajendra Kothi- This 19th century colonial palace that was built by Maharaja Rajendra Singh and is also one on the plans of converting the palace into heritage palace.
