One of the poster attraction of Tripura is certainly the NeerMahal. NeerMahal in the literal context means water palace. Situated on the banks of the lake Rudrasagar, this quaint resort was once the summer abode of the Maharajas. There a number of peculiar factors about the Mahal. Firstly it was conceptualized and constructed by British Architects. The construction of this place on the lake is done in compliance to Hindu and Mughal styles of construction. This is one of the only lake resorts in the city and architectural sense. Now open for visitors the Mahal offers a view of the bygone era and as such is a marvel both in terms of facades and lush green surroundings. The Maharaja used to travel by motor boat to reach the place and this is still preferred way of travelling especially by tourists visiting the place. The Palace is cradle of royalty with all the finest finery on display. Recently the tourist department announced that it would improve the facilities and open a museum in the palace, aprt form that there were also plans to renovate and organize a light and sound show for tourists.
