Gangotri- This is one of the holiest and at the highest places of worship in Gangotri. Dedicated to the Goddess Durga this temple is one of the most respected place of adoration. Located at an altitude of almost 3,048 meters above sea level the temple is revered both for the quaint beauty that is surrounded by a rugged and torrid terrain. However this is not an deterrent in any manner to the thousands of pilgrims that make this journey to the temple with deep faith and dedication. This temple is also held in high honor as it houses the four Dhams. The temple opens to the pilgrims and the lay faithful for veneration in of May and closes after the completion of the festivities of Diwali.
Tapovan- Tapovan is referred to as the place where the fires are eternally enflamed. Embellished with scenic beauty and effervescence the temple is picturesque and peaceful in the true earnest. From here tourists can get a glimpse of the Shiv Ling and offers the most astonishing and most panoramic view of the mountain ranges and the immense scenic beauty that Gangotri and Tapovan is blessed with.
Shivling- The Shivling found here also referred to as the submerged shivlinga is one of the most scared and revered places to visit in Gangotri. The linga is formed naturally and is blessed natural phenomenon. The Shiv linga is visible only in the months of the winter and is concealed throughout the year. This Linga is particularly visible during the winters and as such when the levels of water recede. Tourists and pilgrims from all over visit this place with the most fervent devotion. The Shivling is said to be the place where the Lord Shiva received Ganga in his matted locks.
Bhairon Ghati- This Ghati is situated at the confluence of the Jat Ganga and the Bhagirathi River. Located at about 10 km from Gangotri the Ghati is famously known for the Shri Mata Vaishnava Devi. The journey towards the temple is one of the most hardest as it requires the tourists and pilgrims to trek through the unfriendly terrain all the way up. This is no way deters the faith of those who make this journey whole heatedly. The ambience of the temple is simply sacrosanct and conducive for prayer and recollection.
Gangotri is a hallowed place and is ensaturated with prayer and devotion. The faith and the devotion of pilgrims who traverse here is strong and fervent dedication and unwavering trust. Hence this is the main factor that leads faithful to this place over and over again.
