Narendra Modi BJP PM candidate, so what: Cong
Congress president Sonia Gandhi in an interaction with the media said that she and the Congress party were not at all concerned about Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s elevation as BJP’s prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 general elections.
The sentiment of the party president echoed across the ranks of the party. Ahmed Patel secretary to Mrs Gandhi said "Modi's nomination does not make any difference to Congress. We are not bothered about it. It is the prerogative of a political party to nominate its candidate for the post. Referring to Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Gujarat he said that the party cadre in the state has become more energetic post his visit.
Lashing out at the nomination Bhakt Charan Das, the party spokesperson stated that the country needed a national leader and not a prime minister. Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari taking a potshot at opposition and Modi said that the present government would not bank on a personality to win the elections. Meanwhile Rahul Gandhi stated that the Congress party would win the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
While the government has been intent on ignoring Narendra Modi’s elevation as PM elect, his following and growing recognition cannot be taken for granted. Modi has been a revelation. It is but a fact that Modi will dent the vote bank. Although how well would he do that would be only known at the final ballot. So “Love him or hate Modi is here to stay."
