The Places to See in Alibaug:

Firstly the Undheri Fort- The Undheri Fort is a popular tourist attraction in the city of Alibaug. Located around three hundred meters from Khanderi Fort. This fort is known for its historical significance and at the same time has been subject to rule and changed a couple of times in his story since 1680. This island fort was built by the benevolent Siddhi Kasam in the 1680. However during the long history the fort has been subjected to power tussles both by the leaders and rulers of the state and foreign powers like the Siddhis who built the fort, followed by the Peshwas, Angres and finally by the British who laid siege on the fort. Tourists wishing to visit Undheri Fort can do so by hiring boats that are available. There are fishing boats that ferry tourists to and fro to Undheri Fort.

Khanderi Fort- The Khanderi Fort which is also an important place in Alibaug is situated on a lone island and hence tourists can visit this place again through ferry fishing boats. The fort is situated at about 3.5 kilometers from Thal beach. The fort was constructed in 1678. Later a lighthouse was constructed next to the fort to beacon ships that traverse around the sea and wish to drop anchor along the coasts. The British tried all they could to secure position of the boat but were rendered unsuccessful. However the British finally captured the fort in the year 1750 as part of the Peshwas territory. The British laid capture and control and ruled over the territory for long and was a strategic points for the British Presence in Alibaug. Soaked in the years of heritage this fort offers tourists an environment of   peace serenity and also a perfect place to spend time in quietude and serenity.

Akshi Beach- the Hamlet is located within 5 Km from the town of Alibaug. The Akshi beach is inhabitated by the fishing community. Over the years this beach has evolved as an important destination for travelling tourist and the major reason for this is that the beach offers tourists with a number of opportunities to relax rejuvenate and enjoy on near the coast. This beautiful white sanded beach is surrounded by Suru trees along the coast. The waters of the beach are also crystal clear and perfectly safe for swimming and those who like to venture into the waters. Apart from this the beach is also a perfect choice for bird lovers as birds perch around the waters and the white sanded granules form time to time and the serenity and ambience of the environment is a perfect bet for nature lovers. The beach is also a perfect getaway especially for those who wish to spend their weekends as there are plenty of accommodations available around the premises of the beach.

Nagaon Beach- Nagaon Beach is another picturesque beach that is located about Seven kilometers from the Alibaug. Located in the Raigad district of Maharashtra this beach is beach is again surrounded by Suru trees and Cyprus plantations that are available. Another characteristic feature of the beach is the white sand and the clear waters. This is also a popular tourist destination and as such is visited by tourist. Apart from Being safe for swimming, tourists can also indulge in other activities like boat riding and Kayaking. This destination is popular for picnic and weekend getaways. The beach is also surrounded with numerous cottages, holiday homes and bungalows. Of late there are a number of villas and plots that are owned by personalities.

Alibaug Beach- As the name itself suggests is the main beach in Alibaug. Compared to other beaches mentioned in the list the sand on the beach sand is black as compared to the other beaches. The beach is much livelier with bathers in the morning as well as stalls that are decked up in the evenings to serve tourists and visitors to the beach. The beach is slowly being known as a tourist destination and as such is frequented by tourists for time of relaxation the Kolaba for can also been seen from the beach.

Kihim Beach- Kihim Beach another beach on the tourist map is situated about 12 km from the city of Alibaug and is famous for the lush green coconut trees that are that are hemmed beside the sea belt. The main feature of this beach is that compared to other beaches in the city of Alibaug it is secluded and is known for tranquility and quietude that is unparallel. The place is known for the verdant woods and is also and is a paradise for nature lovers the place is filled with greenery and plants and variety of flora and fauna. The most distinctive feature of this beach is that fact that it is unpolluted and has not been tarnished in any possible manner. The ambience of the place is perfect specially for day trippers and those who wish to spend weekend. The beach now provides tourists with modern amenities as opposed in former years.

Versoli Beach- This beach is situated on the outskirts of Alibaug and as such is one beach destination that is not secluded but still offers the tranquility and silence that one expects in a beach. The characteristic of this beach are similar to other beaches in the Alibaug that is the white sanded granules on the beach that shown while the rays of the sun fall on the beach and the clear waters. The beach has few visitors but is a perfect place for tourists and weekenders wishing to spend a day in the bosom of nature and in quietude. The beach also houses a large naval base. The other characteristic feature of the beach is the vegetation that consists of the coconut trees and the special Casuarinas that are a particular feature in the western peninsular of the Indian sub continent.

Mandva Beach- In terms of distance the Mandva is one of the farthest in location exactly 20km from Alibaug. There are frequent ferry services from Mumbai to Mandav beach. The beach was known for the untroden beaches and the where the skies are green and at the same offers an enchanting view of the entire sceneary and the slyvan beauty that is on display on the beach.The vilage of Mandava is very charming and peaceful and consits of an active fisherfolk community.Of lately Mandava has been known for the beach side residencies of many famous bollywood and celluliod celebrities and distinguished personalities.Both moreover it is a perfcet place for tourist to relax and rejuvenate in the wellness of nature.

The religious places to visit in Alibaug include

Firstly Brahma Khund: Situated on a hill top the Brahma Khund is consists of two Kunds one the Shiv Kund and the other Brahma Pond. These rectangular tanks are surrounded by steps on four sides. It is believed that the pool was created by the water that was collected after Lord Brahma bathed Lord Krishna. There is also a small Maruti temple that is situated in the area around the pound. It is a very beautiful site that is frequented by both tourist and believers alike. The site is also popular among tourist for photography.

Kanakeshwar Devasthan Temple-  The Kanakeshwar Devasthan temple is one of the prime religious places to vsit for to visit among tourist visting Alibaug. This temple is situated at about 13 km from the town and is known for the temple that is dedicated to the LOrd Shiva.The temple is situated at an elevation of 900 feet and hence it is perfectly daunting task even for devotees who have to actually climb 5000 paved steps to get to the top of the holy shrine. The complex of the temple comprises of many smaller temples of which the Shiva Temple is the main temple. Behind the temple is situated the Pushkarna khund but devotees to the temple and tourists are restrained form holy dip due to the previous occurances of mishaps.
