The impressive Laxmi Vilas Palace, in the Indo Saracenic style of architecture, was once the residence of the Royal Gaekwad family. The Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum, located in the sprawling grounds of the palace complex, is a multi purpose museum and houses the Gaekwad family's rich collection of an treasures. On view are contemporary Indian and European paintings dating to the 19th and 20th century. The sculpture section includes Indian as well as Graeco-Roman artefacts, Chinese and Japanese art. The Musuem is closed on Mondays and goverment holidays and is worth visiting, and is opened between 9:30am to 6:30pm.
